The Interface Institute was established to provide an interface between art and science, overcoming the problems related to provenance and authentication using scientific methods.

On recent years more and more authentication boards have been closed and ceased to exist, not being able to cope with the challenges of art authentication in the  21st century. Traditional methods of authentication have failed to fend off numerous forgery and attribution scandals, that only came to light after forensic scientific methods were employed.

Given that the few institutions dedicated to scientific examinations of art are located in universities and museums and generally committed only to their own collections, specialized forensic analysis may be hard to be procured by the general public. For that reason the Interface Institute was founded as a way to provide such services to collectors, galleries, auction houses and museums, in a comprehensive,  agile and affordable way.

Interface Institute works together with Dr Taylor, from  Western State Colorado University and Taylor Art Services, covering all aspects of a proper investigation, from title and provenance to scientific material analysis.

The Interface Institute is proud of compose a  partnership with Pace University Forensic Science Department in New York City, supporting the scholar activities of Forensic Science Programs , together with Dr Zhaohua Dai,  chemistry department. The Interface Institute makes its equipment and know-how available to researchers and students of the field of art forensics.

Either if you are in possession of an artwork of questioned authenticity or intend to realize a more secure purchase, we can help you eliminate doubts, diminish risks and improve the quality of your collection.

We are looking forward to help you.

WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC ART AUTHENTICATION?

Art authenticity can be elusive. Due to it's cultural load and a modern view that sometimes reduces the artistic object to a bi-dimensional digital reproduction, it is often forgotten that artistic objects are in the end physical palpable objects. In opposition with the traditional connoisseurship methods and classic Morelian examinations, the scientific methodology works with art experts, connoisseurs and art historians, providing physical understanding of the artwork in question and therefore, providing a deeper and more precise peek on it's provenance and authorship.
